The latest news from Ashmoor Hockey Club

Starts tomorrow. New players welcome. Age 5 and up.

We are now able to resume Junior Hockey training, but as some of you might have heard, the astroturf pitch at South Dartmoor has been resurfaced with a rugby / football astroturf which isn’t suitable for hockey (like playing snooker on a shagpile carpet). We have managed to secure a slot on the King Edward VI Community College (KEVICC) pitch, but only by moving to a Wednesday night at 7pm, until 8pm. We are going to start next week, 7th October with an open session for any Year 8 and below + any Year 9’s who can’t make the Senior training on Mondays.
The pitch is on the Ashburton Road just outside Totnes on the opposite side of Ashburton Road to the college buildings, the entrance to the car park is immediately before the "Welcome to Totnes" footbridge (and just after the speed camera !).

Ashburton Road

The pitch at KEVICC is only a few years old and is in very good condition, with excellent floodlighting and toilets / changing rooms next to the pitch (though the changing rooms are currently out of use due to COVID restrictions). Ashmoor Men’s 1st team play all of their National League home matches on this pitch, it will be much better for the youngsters to learn to play on the correct surface.

In order to play during the various COVID-19 restrictions all players must complete the England Hockey Consent form:

Please print out the confirmation email & bring it along to the first training session that you attend. We have to see evidence that it has been done, so if you can’t print it then please either forward it to me or be able to show us on your phone etc.

There is also a weekly “Check-In” that we have to do on Teamo, similar to the restaurant / pub Track & Trace system. Each week you have to confirm that the player is free from symptoms etc. You do this by going onto the training event and clicking the “Check-In” button on the purple bar (available from 3 hours before the start time, so you can even do it before leaving home) or you can scan the QR code at the venue.

Indoor Hockey
At the moment the sports hall at South Dartmoor is not allowed to be used by 3rd party organisations and there is also a question mark over playing team sports indoors. Adult indoor hockey has been stopped for the time-being, so it is unlikely that we would be allowed to do Quicksticks Indoor hockey until the restrictions have been relaxed.

Kind regards,

Ashmoor Hockey Club has always valued the benefits that indoor hockey training brings to the outdoor game, particularly ball control skills and quick decision making, but as a sport in it's own right opportunities to play in competitions have been very limited, especially for the younger age-groups. Thankfully that is now changing, as a new company (Indoor Hockey UK) have started running tournaments at a couple of locations around the country. In December our Under 18 boys entered the IHUK annual Championship at the Copper Box Arena in London, gaining some valuable experience prior to the Indoor National Finals. We would now like to try and get some of the other age-groups involved.

The next tournament that IHUK have arranged is being held at the end of May in the prestigious Derby Arena. We would like to enter as many teams as possible, so need to get an indication of how many players in each age-group would be interested.

I hope you've all had a good rest over the summer and are fit and ready for the new season. We get off to a flying start next week with:
Senior training on Monday 2nd at Totnes, 7.30pm
Junior training on Tuesday 3rd at SDCC, (U10 & U12 6pm, U14 7pm)
U16/U18 Indoor training on Thursday 5th, (7-8pm)
U10/U12/U14 & U16/U18 Girls Indoor training on Friday 6th, (times as last year)
Men's 1's, 2's, 3's and 4's with pre-season friendlies on Saturday 7th and
Devon tournament for both the Ladies and Men on Sunday 8th

Details are all on Teamo, so sign up if you haven't already (instructions on earlier posts). 107 players signed up so far.

For the new season in September we are going to make use of the Mobile App based club management software "Teamo".

The free app will enable you to see forthcoming matches for the teams you are linked with (Junior festivals and senior league matches, training times and social events etc.). It will show any payments you need to make to the club, such as membership fees, Indoor training fees, match fees etc. You can also add a payment card onto your account and then make quick and easy secure payments direct from the app if you want to.

Before downloading the free app to a phone you should register on Ashmoor's Teamo page at this link:

Your account will be linked to your mobile phone number, but a parent / guardian can add multiple children to their account (and each child can also install the app if they have their own mobile phone).

Step 1 - Goto the website to start the registration, at this link  You must be over 18 on 31/08/19 to register. (You can do this on a computer or in a web browser on a smart phone).

Step 2 - Read / Accept the terms and conditions, tick the box, then click the “Register” button.

Step 3 - Select the option that suits your situation:
A - If you are a Senior player within the club (with or without children to register as well) then choose the 'Adult Registration Form' - You will add the children later.
B - If you are a non-playing parent or guardian then choose the 'Junior Registration Form'. Start by entering the details for the first child (only enter the mobile and email if they belong to the child), you will then have the option to add any additional children or move on to enter your details as the parent/guardian.

Step 4 - Download the app onto your mobile phone.

If you want to add a payment card to the app so that you can pay for match fees, membership etc, then you can do that by going into Settings – My Payments and then tapping the Card symbol in the top right hand corner. (You can still make payments by cheque or cash or internet banking, but they will show as “Outstanding” until they have been manually verified).

Teamo is operated by the sports training company Sportplan Ltd and was endorsed by England Hockey earlier this year. It is fully GDPR compliant and the payment system used is Stripe (as used by Fitbit, Uber, Amazon etc). This allows you to link a payment card to the App so that you can make quick and easy payments to Ashmoor for things such as match fees, kit or annual membership. We will of course continue to accept payments by other means, but we would prefer to move to electronic payments as much as possible.
