The quality of Ashmoor’s Ladies performances in the League this season has gone from strength to strength. Under the Captaincy of Emily Martin, ably supported by the evergreen Trudy Channon and Ella Reade, the young side has improved with every game. New Coach Huw Hannaford has given the team confidence to play their own attacking style of hockey, whilst maintaining a strong defensive platform, backed up by Emily Channon in goal who is having a good season. In the ten-game first half of the season Ashmoor have won nine and drawn just one, and in the process they have scored 37 goals whilst conceding only 4!

The blend of youth and experience has worked very well, with many of the team’s players forming the backbone of the Ashmoor girls Under 18 team who recently qualified for the National Indoor Hockey 5s Finals. The Club’s youth policy lower down is also paying dividends – with Junior girls teams at under 10, under 12 and Two teams at under 14, all playing in Devon and England Hockey competitions - the future is bright. Two 13 year olds, Fiona German and Ellie Ingham-Hill have even made their debuts their senior league debuts already and done so well that they have become established players.

So at the mid season break Ashmoor sit at the top of Petroc Division 2. It was a tough finish with matches against all the other top 5 sides, but Ashmoor rose to the challenge and came through unscathed, including excellent victories against Sidmouth and Ottery (3rd) and in the final match a thrilling 2-1 win over 2nd placed Dawlish. The side are really looking forward to the second half of the season, with promotion and the formation of a new Ladies second team for next season the target!
