** UPDATE ** Ben completed the marathon in 4 hours and 47 minutes. Well done Ben !!!!

Just over a week from now, one of Ashmoor's junior players, Ben Cowdry, will be taking on the monumental task of the London Marathon. He won't be the first Ashmoor player to tackle this grueling challenge, but what makes Ben's attempt so extraordinary is that the marathon will take place just one year to the day from when, as a seventeen year old, he was diagnosed with cancer - in his leg !

During his treatment over the last 12 months, Ben has really appreciated the support he has had from The Teenage Cancer Trust and he has therefore decided to use this opportunity to help raise some money for the charity that helped him through such a difficult time of his life.

Ben would be grateful for any help you can give him in this fundraising effort, please follow the link: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/bencowdry

The Teenage Cancer Trust have written a very good article about Ben's reason for running which is well worth a read: https://bealegend.org/news/ben-legend

Wales v England - Tuesday 10th April 2018. Ashmoor's Alf Dinnie on the attack.

(Screenshot from BBC's website streamed video: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/commonwealth-games/43509143 no idea if the link will work but feel free to try)

A good start for Wales, getting a 1-1 draw against a much higher ranked Pakistani team.
Looks like the Dinnie family all enjoyed it (from their front row seats !!!).

The Commonwealth Games hockey gets under way in Australia on Thursday at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre. With Ashmoor's very own Alf Dinnie playing for Wales in what promises to be a tense match against Pakistan at 10.30am (UK time). The majority of our members will have either played alongside Alf or will have been on the receiving end of some of the fantastic coaching sessions he has run for us over the past few years, but now is the time to offer him our support, look out for shirt number 5. Steve has sent the schedule below with the UK times marked up, so we can try to follow the events. It's possible that some matches will be on the BBC red button, especially the finals.

*UPDATE* It looks like the matches will be streamed live on the BBC Sport website.

Thankfully the weather was good enough to dry out the gazebo after Monday nights soaking.

Under 10/12's

1st Place - White (18 points)
2nd Place - Orange (16 points)
3rd Place - Green (10 points)

Special mention for our new Under 10 Goal Keeper Oliver Broom, who faced a barrage of 126 penalties during the session and saved a fantastic 65% of them.

Under 14's
The tournament winners were the Green Team, with the Orange Team coming a close second.

2nd Place - Green (6 points)

(The winners of the senior tournament on Monday were the Orange team with 46 points, followed by the Yellows in second place on 40 points. The Orange team drew their 1st match, then won the other 4, with England Under 18 player Sam Taylor, giving a master class in hockey skills !)
